Hybrid vigour doesn't always work. After so much effort breeding countless blousy hybrids, the hibiscus has become too much work to keep looking good in the landscape and fallen from fashion. Native to higher areas of Hawaii, it grows to a large, screening bush with masses of flowers even in cooler areas with less insect attack and less maintenance.
