Just back from a quick New Zealand trip where I was inspired (thanks Sarah) to start this blog – first up on contrasting encounters with Astelia nervosa.
The first image of the Mountain Astelia in the wild was taken on a Mt Arthur walk in Kahurangi National Park. Just the sort of naturalistic but graphic study in texture and tone I love in a garden.
The second image of this highly variable species is a mass planting of ‘Westland' outside a Christchurch commercial building a less silvery cultivar but with reliable bronze and red-purple shades that get stronger as the season cools.
