Banksia ‘Roller Coaster' is another autumn and winter-flowering dwarf selection that's been around quite a while now but should still be more widely seen.
Not nearly as refined as the previous banksias, this one is a true groundcover spreading about 4m across – or down as a spillover plant.
Its dark leathery leaves reveal silver underneath when turned up in the wind.
As a form of the Coast Banksia (B. integrifolia), the overall effect is appropriately more in keeping with a beach style garden.
For those actually near the beach, it has no problem handling sandy soils and salt winds.

Fast plant facts

Antonella, Alexandra VIC
The best time to weed the garden is right after the rain. Weeds come out easy and you don't disturb neighbouring plant roots.

Palmetto

Palmetto Soft Leaf Buffalo is ideally suited as a lawn in many applications.
